Club Update
[Thursday, 07 May 2020 14:43]
Following a Board Meeting held by video conference last night, as promised an update from the Directors on club affairs and their thoughts on general football matters as we battle on to hopefully win the fight against Coronavirus.
League Reconstruction – As most supporters will be aware no full proposal has as yet been submitted by the SPFL Board for clubs to decide the way forward. Suffice to say that at present the ‘Loons’ Directors are not exactly ‘jumping through hoops’ at the suggestions made to date in the press for either a 14/14/14 or 14/14/16 set up. The Station Park board re-iterate that they feel in the current scenario with so much doubt about when the new season will commence if at all, talk of reconstruction should be left for another day!
Coronavirus – The SFA/SPFL have set up a task force committee to plot the way forward for the professional game as we see some ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ in relation to the pandemic. They will, of course, be guided in their deliberations by government and health officials. However, the Forfar Athletic board remains convinced that competitive football at our level behind closed doors is a nonstarter.
Fund Raising Ventures – A decision will have to be taken by the end of this month, in regard to the potential staging of our Annual Golf Tournament in mid-August and the much-anticipated return of Sneaky Treacle to the Reid Hall in September. However both events look likely to follow the sad demise in the circumstances of the Ladies and Sportsman’s Dinner, but we always live in hope.
It has also been decided that there is no point in attempting to reschedule either of the above Dinners for later in the current year and therefore dates have been booked for March and May of 2021.
Share Purchase Scheme – As has been mentioned previously the Directors are delighted with the uptake in regard to the purchased of shares in the club over the past six weeks. We are now within sight of a £20,000 figure being attained, far beyond original expectations. Any further enquires can be directed to David McGregor on 07871165689 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Loons Lucky Lotto – Again the support this new venture has received from ‘Loons’ fans from far and wide has been exceptional. Look out for some great news still to come in regard to next week’s draw.
Playing Squad – The scenario of building a squad for next season is the most difficult and in fact unique situation for Club management and officials but, of course, we are not alone in that respect. Working out budget forecasts etc is totally impossible in the current climate, but Stuart is keeping the squad in touch with the scenario as best he can. Hopefully, there will be some movement to report in the month ahead in what is sure to be an ever-evolving situation.
It would, however, appear that press reports that Jordan Kirkpatrick has signed a pre-contract agreement with Darvel who are due to play in the sixth tier of Scottish football next term within the newly formed West of Scotland League are accurate.
Competing financially with a few of the clubs at the fifth and sixth tier of the pyramid with big-spending backers is another problem for all League One and Two part-time outfits these days.
However, as has been said hundreds of times in recent weeks and by god it is true. The problems of running a football club at present pale into insignificance alongside the current crisis. It looks like the battle is just beginning to be won, but in the meantime please all respect government advice and keep safe and well.
Again this evening we all get the opportunity to pay our own tribute to front line workers in the NHS and elsewhere, so please lend your support.
Finally back to the game we all love and just remember football at Station Park and beyond will return but only when it is deemed safe to do so.
