‘Loons’ back in training
[Wednesday, 02 September 2020 14:28]
One hundred and seventy-two days since their last session on March 12th, Forfar Athletic’s playing squad returned to training under strict Cov19 protocols at Station Park last night.
All sixteen current signed players were in attendance along with one or two trialists and they were put through their paces by manager Stuart Malcolm and his coaching staff.
They will report back on Thursday evening and Saturday for further stints in preparation for a few pre-season friendly fixtures.
The first of these which was scheduled for Saturday the 19th of September against Lowland League BSC Glasgow is now unlikely to go ahead under new guidelines from the SFA/SPFL Joint Response Group that such fixtures should be of a more localised nature.
‘Loons’ officials will no doubt be on the lookout for replacement opposition.
The Betfred Cup is due to get underway on October 6th with a trip to Dens Park, Hibernian the visitors to Station Park on Tuesday the 13th of October.
League One action commences with a visit from Dumbarton on the 17th of October.
Of course, the word is still awaited in regard to the possibility of supporters being allowed access to these games and in what numbers and format if that is the case. We live in hope.
There was an FA Cup Qualifying tie available on the red button and the BBC website last night attended by a few hundred fans and although the writer only tuned in for a few minutes it was indeed like the ‘Good Old Days.’
