Bob steps down from the Board

Bob Charlton has decided to step aside from his position as a Director of Forfar Athletic following a ten-year stint on the board at Station Park.
Bob had in fact advised his fellow Directors around Christmas of last year that he intended to ‘retire’ from his post at the end of last season.
However, in the weird and trying circumstances that prevailed in May, Bob stayed in the post to assist the club in their quest to make a return to competitive football at some time during this dreadful pandemic.
With that now hopefully in sight, Bob announced at this week’s scheduled meeting that he would be standing down, a decision reluctantly accepted by his colleagues.
That was on Monday evening and Bob nor any of his then former colleagues could have imagined what the following 72 hours were to bring for the club.
Bob has given great service to the ‘Loons’ for in fact much longer than his ten years as a fully-fledged Director, serving his apprenticeship prior to that appointment during the 2010/11 season as a hospitality host alongside assisting at many other fundraising ventures.
Over his decade on the board Bob has worked tirelessly for the ‘Loons’ cause overseeing many projects around the ground, serving as one of the club’s representatives on SPCT committee, assisting his great friend Dennis Fenton with the running of the ‘Loons’ Lottery as well as keeping all the bars in the various lounges well stocked.
He was also very well received by opposition Directors and has admitted he will miss the matchday banter behind the scenes greatly, but perhaps not the hassle that prevails on the odd occasion!
He will not be easily replaced!
Chairman Scott Murdie and his fellow Directors paid due tribute to him personally earlier in the week, but would now publicly thank him for his always enthusiastic and full-on commitment to the club over the past ten years and more.
Although Bob is stepping down from ‘active service’ he has confirmed to the Chairman that it is not a full retirement and he still intends to be a fixture around the club and once some normality is resumed he will be a more than willing helper on occasions when required and his time permits.
