It has taken a bit of time due to minor complications but on the eve of pre-season training commencing, Gary Irvine is delighted to confirm that his backroom team is now totally in place.
Scott Robertson, some twelve months after departing the Station Park scene after a one year stint as a player to take up a youth coaching role at Dundee returns as Assistant Manager.
Permission has been granted by the powers that be for Scott to continue in his role at Dens Park alongside his Station Park duties and Forfar Athletic officials can only thank their Dundee colleagues for their co-operation in this regard.
Scott who is Dundee based began his senior playing days with Dundee before crossing the road to Tannadice, Hibernian, Raith Rovers, Brechin City and eventually the ‘Loons’ his other ‘ports of call’ not forgetting a short stint in Romania, during a senior career in which he was also capped twice by his country.
An ‘A’ Licence Coach, he made 12 starting appearances for the Athies in a truncated 2019/20 season as well as 11 substitute appearances and he now is welcomed back as the number two in the new management set up at the club.
Joining Gary and Scott as first-team coach will be the vastly experienced Gary Harkins, a former playing colleague of the manager.
Gary began his senior career down south with Blackburn Rovers and wore the colours of four other English League sides before returning north of the border to Partick Thistle in 2007. This was to be the first of two spells at Firhill, and in the ensuing fourteen years, he was also to grace the turf as a Dundee player in two stints at Dens, as well as Kilmarnock, St. Mirren, Ayr United, Morton, Queen of the South and Stenhousemuir.
Last term he plied his trade with progressive West of Scotland League side Gartcairn and now makes his first step into the coaching world.
Gary Irvine is also delighted to confirm that Wayne Henderson is to remain as the club’s goalkeeping coach, while Mark Farrell continues as the club’s fitness ‘guru.’
On the medical side, Lara Jordan will be praying she is not so busy this time round in her physiotherapist’s role while the club are once again very lucky to have Jane Crawford entering her fifth season as the Club Doctor.
