Best Wishes for David

Following the announcement yesterday that David McGregor has retired from the post of Club Secretary after 37 years, the Club has been inundated with best wishes messages.
Among these messages, Club Chairman, Scott Murdie, Manager Gary Irvine, and Captain Ross Meechan, wished to put on record their thanks to David for his contribution to the Loons over the years.
Scott Murdie, Chairman
"No words will ever give David the praise he deserves for his commitment and dedication to Forfar Athletic Football Club.
It doesn’t matter where you are if you mention Forfar Athletic the first response is normally "and how is David McGregor getting on?" A much admired individual across the world of football.
His knowledge of the game is second to none. Well known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of sport, especially football closely followed by cricket, David's ability to confirm the score in almost any Forfar game is a great feat. To be able to tell you the goal scorer and probably the name of the referee in the same game is even more remarkable!
I don’t think there will be many who have a better understanding of the ins and outs of football rules and governance than David. It can be very complicated when it comes to signings, loan players, who can play in cup games and who can’t. Over the last eighteen months we have also had to get to grips with a long list of covid protocols. In his usual thorough and conscientious manner David always keeps up to speed, anticipating the effects of the various rules and rarely needs to look up the answer to any football related query. I am positive new Secretary Alan will have David on speed dial! Certainly myself and the Board are delighted he is staying on as a Director and his vast knowledge and experience will be retained.
In a similar vein David’s attention to detail is legendary whether organising the hospitality groups, Sportsman dinners, an away game meal or the playing kit, David always has everything under control.
Dave, as many know him as, has a tremendous range of stories normally with an amusing punchline related to other 'well kent' figures around the Club. These often relate to Forfar trips on the road with the main characters 'falling by the wayside' at some point in the journey!
To thank a gentleman of David’s stature in and out of the game is no easy task - all we can do is to learn from him and appreciate his friendship."
Gary Irvine, Manager
"I’d personally like to thank David for all the support and guidance he’s given me over the last five months. I’ve really enjoyed working with him and he’s made it so easy for me transitioning into management.
David's knowledge and understanding of every rule in Scottish football is second to none and he’ll be a big miss for myself and the Club in that role.
37 years is an unbelievable length of time to be dedicated to the Club and I wish him a happy and relaxing retirement from the Club Secretary post, which he thoroughly deserves! It's great he'll still be around for advice and support.
Thanks you, from me, my staff and players for everything you have done for us David." Gaz
Ross Meechan, Club Captain
"David is a true gentleman who always puts the boys first. Whether it's sorting pre-match meals, contracts, tickets or buses. He is always there to help the boys out. He is a welcoming face on a Thursday night at training and is a true Forfar Athletic legend.
On behalf of the players I'd like to wish him all the best and can't thank him enough for everything he has done!"
