The question has been asked today as to whether former ‘Loons’ defender Odmar Faero made Forfar Athletic history for the second time last night?
The Faroese international who joined the Station Park club in the summer of 2012, later that year became the first and to this date only serving Athies player to play a full international for his country when he lined up against Germany.
In fact his association with Forfar was highlighted right at the beginning of last night’s fixture by Sky’s veteran commentator Ian Crocker.
The question as Odmar now plying his trade at club level back in the Faroes with the KI club won his 30th cap last night for his country is whether he is the first former Forfar Athletic player to play in a full international against Scotland?
The answer to that in most certainly no.
In fact the previous occasion it occurred was during the World Cup Finals in Spain in 1982 on the 15th of June in Malaga to be precise.
Alan Boath an undoubtedly talented left sided defender who spent an injury plagued 1977/8 season with the club after being signed by Archie Knox on his release from Dundee United turned out that night for his by then adopted country New Zealand against a Scotland side managed by Jock Stein.
It was New Zealand’s first ever game at this level and a strong Scotland side triumphed 5-2 on a warm summer’s evening, before going on to lose 4-1 to Brazil three nights later and bow out of the tournament after a 2-2 draw the following week with the USSR.
As for Alan he continued to represent his country on occasions, playing professional football for some time in Adelaide in South Australia.
