New Directors Appointed
[Monday, 29 November 2021 20:22]
The Club has appointed two new Directors, with a specific remit towards focusing on the Club's community outreach activities. We are delighted to welcome Mark Nisbet and Paul Wilson to these roles on the Forfar Athletic board.
Mark and Paul will have specific duties, including representing the Loons on the Forfar Community Football Trust Board and actively working with our partners at Forfar Farmington and the Forfar Athletic Community Football Club to use the power of football to make a difference in the local community. The new Directors will also be able to
assist the Club and Trust in the delivery of some of the initiatives co-ordinated by the SPFL Trust and other bodies such as Kick it Out.
Club officials were delighted with the response to our enquiring seeking interest in this position and, given the quality of responses received – and the fact that we had two “stand out” candidates for the position – have elected to appointed two new Directors to our Board who will be well known to many supporters.
Mark Nisbet
Mark is well known to most who frequent Station Park, particularly as a regular match-day volunteer, assisting with hospitality and looking after match sponsors.
Mark is currently a Manager with Angus Council – and was previously a facility manager with Angus Council/Angus Alive – roles within which he has experience of managing and leading a team. Those roles have also provided experience in matters related to Health & Safety and managing maintenance works/programmes.
In football/sports circles, Mark has an HNC in Sports Coaching & Development, was formerly a coach at Forfar Farmington and was, until recently, Club Development Officer at Kirrie Thistle Community FC. Mark continues to work with the SFA, coaching Scotland Women’s U16s team.
We are confident that Mark's experience will be a valuable addition to the Club and Trust in helping to develop the Trust activities, engaging with the Farmington and Community FC teams and helping Forfar Athletic to work as an integral part of the Trust with those Partners to forge stronger links and pathways between the Clubs and to use the power of football to help fulfil the Trust’s vision.
Paul Wilson
Paul was previously involved with Strathmore Rugby Club for 15 years, serving as an age grade coach & Vice President of juniors before moving to senior rugby where he reformed and coached the 2nd XV along with being club Vice President for 3 years before stepping down in 2019. Over his 15-year association with “Strathie”, Paul helped shape the club into what it is today and win promotion to the national leagues.
However, Paul was and still is a keen footballer, having been a Loons supporter for many years – starting off training with the “Young Sky Blues” early 80’s – at a time some of the first-team players (and now Club “legends”) such as Ian McPhee and Ray Farmingham would help with the training and inspiring the youth players. Paul also “served some time” assisting Martin Gray with the kit and travelled with FAFC across Scotland for several years in the late 1980’s before starting work for former Club Chairman, Gordon Webster, at Webster and Pattullo.
Paul subsequently ran his own business in Forfar for several years, before taking up his current position with Angus Council Architects Dept.
Paul’s experience and enthusiasm will be an asset to both the Football Club and the Community Trust in striving to mould the Trust and drive this forward in fulfilment of the Trust’s strategic vision.
