Darren Reaches 100
[Friday, 28 January 2022 20:42]
Ahead of training this week, Club Chairman Scott Murdie presented Darren Whyte with a shirt to mark his 100th appearance for the Loons.
This milestone was in fact reached in the match against Elgin on 2nd January. What made that achievement even more special was that it came after 446 days on the side-lines due to the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury Darren sustained against Hibernian in October 2020.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic hindered Darren’s journey to recovery with restrictions on hospital appointments but everyone at the Club was delighted to see him back in the squad at the turn of the year with all the hard work and dedication paying off during the most challenging of times.
Darren joined the Loons from St Mirren in September 2017, first on loan and then on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018. He quickly became a firm fans’ favourite and despite still being out injured Darren’s contract was extended in May 2021 as the Club supported him in his recovery.
With the unfortunate injury to Steven Anderson a couple of weeks ago at Annan, Darren is likely to get his first starting appearance against Edinburgh City tomorrow, a mere 473 days after that Hibs match!
Congratulations to Darren from everyone at Forfar Athletic, not only on your 100th game but also on remaining positive and professional through the lengthy rehabilitation.
