Sportsman’s Dinner
[Thursday, 26 May 2022 18:02]
Forfar Athletic officials have made the decision that with the Reid Hall still likely to be unavailable for some time to come due to it being utilised as a vaccination centre, that they will stage what will be our 25th Sportsman’s Dinner in the Strathmore Hall in the town on Friday September 16th.
Despite the change of venue and also the time of year, there would appear to be a wish from many past supporters and patrons of the Dinner to resurrect the event which due to the pandemic was last staged in May of 2019.
As many will recall, the Dinner scheduled for May, 2020 had to be cancelled at four weeks notice as long term lockdown for us all became a stark reality.
Of course since the first Dinner in the spring of 1996, the level of support the event has received has been outstanding and throughout time it has become one of the club’s major fund raising events.
Looking forward to September, we have procured the services of two of the speakers/entertainers with a bit of nostalgia included, who were originally scheduled to appear back in 2020.
JOHN STILES – The son of the legendary Nobby, John who was a professional footballer himself in his younger day is now rated one of the top after dinner acts in the UK and gave a 5 star performance at his previous appearance at this event back in 2008.
GEORGE McNEILL – The former World Professional Sprint Champion and also a professional footballer was amazingly one of the speakers at our first Dinner back in 1996. Still rated as one of Scotland’s leading raconteurs.
Rodger Brunton will again be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
The Directors of Forfar Athletic are hopeful that there will be a good level of support for the event and the club at what will be the Silver Anniversary Dinner with a table for ten competitively priced at £450.
To reserve a table e mail David McGregor at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 07871165689.
Due to the space available at the venue it may be possible to consider slightly smaller groups/parties, confirmation of this at a later date.
However if this scenario may be of interest please do not hesitate to make contact.
We will also be on the lookout for suitable items for the auction on the night as well as raffle prizes and again please contact any Forfar Athletic official with offers of assistance in this regard.
The support in the past of the Dinner has been much appreciated and hopefully that may continue in regard to what should be another night to remember on September 16th.
