David Valentine

Many Athies supporters would have been saddened to hear last weekend of the death of lifelong fan David Valentine at the age of 75.
‘Big Val’ as he was known to his many friends had been a season ticket holder for over 60 years and also at one time was a regular at away fixtures into the bargain.
He was also a member of the supporters group who followed the ‘Loons’ on their historic trip to Ontario in 1980.
In fact he was an amazing fan of the ‘beautiful game’ and along with a group of friends in pre-pandemic days regularly watched around 150 plus games a season at all levels.
In fact it was not unknown for them to watch three games in one day on the odd occasion!
In his younger day he was also an avid follower of the national side and attended the World Cup Finals in Spain in 1982.
He was also for many years a keen supporter of Strathmore Cricket Club.
David worked for most of his life in the agricultural sector mainly with Angus and Hamlyn Milling latterly in a managerial role.
He will be sorely missed by many but in particular by his sister Kay and family to whom our sympathies are extended at this time.
The ‘Loons’ have certainly lost another die hard supporter, sadly not the first in recent troubled times.
David’s funeral service takes place tomorrow (Friday) in the Lowson Memorial Church at 1.15p.m. thereafter to Newmonthil Cemetery.
