The Loons picked up a valuable point away from home against Stranraer which keeps themselves in the playoff places with only 4 games left of the season.
Forfar started the brighter of the two teams on the heavy pitch and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box following a surging run from Mark Docherty. Stef McCluskey’s direct effort was well blocked though.
Neither team created many clear cut chances in the opening 45 minutes however the Loons did have an opportunity before the break when Stef McCluskey flashed the ball across the face of goal but no one was on hand to tap in.
Marc McCallum was called into action a couple of times as Stranraer reacted to some sloppy passing but it was nothing the experienced keeper couldn’t handle. Andy Munro then sent a header over the bar on the stroke of half time.
Halftime 0-0
The second half started in a similar vein to the first with both teams cancelling each other out so it wasn’t long before Ray McKinnon brought on Thomson and Moore for Flannigan and Ross. With the fresh legs in midfield and Thomson’s pace on the wing, the Loons started creating more chances.
McKinnon rung a further change with Matty Aitken replacing Kyle Hutton on 70 minutes and Aitken almost made the dream start after Thomson fired it across the goal, but it was just out of reach for the striker.
Stranraer were tiring and with gaps opening up, a quick ball over the top put Craig Thomson through. He beat the keeper and found the net however he was adjudged to be offside, much to the disappointment of the Loons travelling support.
The continued Loons pressure forced a few corners and Andy Munro had a great chance with a shot from a clearing header however the centre half’s shot from the edge of the box sailed over the cross bar.
Full time 0-0
Overall a point a piece was probably a fair result and the Loons will now prepare for the trip north next Saturday away to now bottom Elgin City.
