The ‘Loons’ management team are delighted this morning to announce the arrival of two new faces at Station Park, the first of many they hope as well as importantly the news that another of last season’s squad will be remaining at Station Park.
The newcomers are Matty Allan and Mark Whatley, both of whom were team mates in recent times at neighbours Montrose.
Matty a 27 year old Dundee based defender was a target for Ray McKinnon ever since it was announced that he would not be remaining at Links Park some weeks back.
A product of the Dundee youth set up, Matty did have a short spell on loan with ‘Gable Endies’ prior to joining them permanently during the 2016/17 season. He in fact made 33 appearances for Montrose in the season just ended and moves to Station Park on a two year contract.
Mark Whatley most at home in a midfield berth began his senior career with Raith Rovers.
Following a one season stint with Spartans he signed for Arbroath in the summer of 2014 and in the ensuing seven seasons went on to make in excess of 200 appearances for the ‘Lichties.’
Mark who lives on the outskirts of Forfar fitting the bill as far as Ray’s commitment to trying to source more locally based players then spent the last two seasons plying his trade at Montrose. Mark has signed an initial one year deal with the Athies.
The manager is also delighted that Callum Moore has agreed to extend his stay at Station Park signing a one year extension to his contract over the weekend.
‘Smokie’ joined the ‘Loons’ in December of 2021 following his release by Dundee having had a spell on loan at Station Park the previous season. In the season just end the Arbroath based 23 year old made 18 starting appearances in his accustomed midfield role as well as 14 from the bench.
More signings are in the pipeline as the Forfar squad for 2023/4 season takes shape with pre-season training due to commence in the latter part of next month.
