Vital March fixtures ahead for ‘Loons’

Meteorological spring arrived on our ‘door step’ on Friday past, but the weather endured travelling to and from Stranraer at times yesterday by Forfar Athletic management, players and a hardy bunch of supporters belied that fact in abundance.
The previously notified road closure on the A77 in South Ayrshire meant in the end a 10 hour plus driving time round trip for the official coach which eventually returned to base just after 10.30p.m. A hard fought goalless draw for point in a game which to be fair will not dwell long in the memory bank was the reward for the players at the end of ninety minutes, the recent unbeaten record in the cinch league2 extended to eight games.
The fact that five of these games have ended in a share of the spoils though means that as we enter the final quarter of the league campaign, we hold a seven point advantage over Clyde who will visit Station Park on Saturday first, the ‘Bully Wee’ currently sitting in the dreaded 10th spot in the table.
Stranraer are four points adrift of the Athies, with Bonnyrigg Rose and Elgin both two adrift. Stranraer and Bonnyrigg both have a game in hand on Ray McKinnon’s side, those outstanding fixtures due to be played on Tuesday evening of this week, Stranraer entertaining Dumbarton, Bonnyrigg welcoming the Spartans to New Dundas Park.
It is certainly a no holds barred, cut and thrust scenario in the bottom half of the cinch league2 at present with surprise results abounding, none more so of course than Clyde’s 6-1 demolition last weekend of league leaders Stenhousemuir.
This coming weekend’s clash at Station Park with Ian McCall’s side is certainly crucial in many respects for the home side and a repeat of the win recorded at New Douglas Park less than a fortnight ago would be just what the ‘doctor ordered!’
The four games that Andy Munro and his colleagues have remaining on their March fixture card see a home double header followed by a duo of away fixtures.
On March 16th , champions elect Stenhousemuir will be the visitors to Station Park, followed by a trip to face Elgin City on the 23rd.
The Capital City will then be the destination on the 30th for a clash with the Spartans at Ainslie Park.
Interesting times indeed and the support of the ‘Forfar’ faithful will have a big part to play as ever.
C’mon the ‘Loons’
