Manager Ray McKinnon is delighted with his second close season signing, 27 year old front man Ross MacLean joining the ‘Loons’ after three seasons at Dumbarton.
Ross has just completed the first year of a two year contract with the ‘Sons’ so Forfar have paid a moderate fee for his services to the now SPFL League1 club.
Ross signed his first professional contract for his hometown club Motherwell as a 17 year old and was a member of the 2016 Fir Park side who won the Scottish Youth Cup with a 5-2 win over Hearts in the final.
After a five year stint in Lanarkshire which included one season on loan at Morton, Ross moved to Falkirk then on to Queens Park where he played a prominent role in their League2 championship winning side of 2020/1 under Ray’s stewardship.
‘Chucky’ as he is commonly referred to in the Scottish game then headed for Dumbarton in the summer of 2021, going on to make nearly 100 appearances over the ensuing three seasons.
Due to a change in his everyday work commitments Ross however had to take a break from the game much to the disappointment or ‘Sons’ officials, players and fans in the second half of last season, but with that problem well behind him, he is looking forward with great enthusiasm to the next stage of his SPFL career.
Ray McKinnon who as mentioned has worked with Ross previously knows the qualities he brings to the club. Ray commented that Ross will bring with him varied options as he is equally comfortable going through the middle or operating on the flanks and he is sure that he will quickly become a favourite with the fans.
Ross has penned a two year deal with the ‘Loons.’
He also teams up once again with ‘namesake’ Russell a nightmare for press men and others but also hopefully the duo will be classed in a similar vein by opposition defenders.
Ray and Athies officials hope to able to announce at least one other new arrival as the weekend progresses.
