Preview
It is a return to ‘action stations’ in the William Hill League2 for the ‘Loons’ on Saturday following their 2-0 defeat to a very strong Partick Thistle side in the cup last weekend.
East Kibride managed by Mick Kennedy and the winner of last season’s pyramid play-offs against Brora Rangers then Bonnyrigg Rose pay their first ever visit to the Alpha Projects Stadium at Station Park.
Manager Jim Weir though not sounding the alarm bells admits his squad go into the contest with a potential injury crisis. Cormac Christie, Kieran Inglis, Ross MacLean and Craig Slater remain sidelined, while skipper Stuart Morrison is a doubt, with a further senior member of the squad due for a fitness test pre-match to determine his availability for the starting eleven. On the plus front youngsters Scott Bright and Jake Sutherland return to the match day squad, having missed the tie against the ‘Jags’ through ineligibility and illness respectively.
Jim admits it is hard to get his head round the fact that so many key players are currently side lined and in most cases likely to be for some weeks, for the visit of a strong East Kilbride unit who sit in second place in the league table having lost only three of their fourteen games to date. However the Station Park management team remain confident in the ability of the players who will take the field in a sky blue jersey at 3pm. on Saturday.
All involved will be up for the task of gaining retribution for the exceptionally ‘bad day at the office’ endured on our first visit to the ‘K’ Park in late August when a 5-0 drubbing was the final score line in somewhat exceptional circumstances, a result made all the worse by the serious injury that has ruled Ross MacLean out since. Incidentally it has to be said once again that no ‘Kilby’ player was in any way to blame for the incident on the day and the care and attention Ross received at the ground was first class. Cameron Elliott was the scorer of four of the home side’s goals that afternoon, former ‘Loon’ Nathan Flanagan who has since moved on to pastures new the other marksman. Since then East Kilbride have also made the significant signing on loan from Dunfermline Athletic of former Edinburgh City striker Connor Young.
We often comment that a tough ninety minutes lies ahead for the Athies but to be fair it is undoubtedly the case tomorrow and hopefully the home support will turn out in reasonable numbers and play a twelfth man role on the day.
The referee for Saturday’s contest Sean Murdoch will be making his second visit of the season to Forfar, having been in charge of the clash with Clyde in October.
C’mon the ‘Loons’.
