William Hill League2 – Five Tough Games Lie Ahead
[Wednesday, 01 April 2026 23:32]
The ‘Loons’ like all other clubs in the William Hill Championship, League One and Two enter the final stages of the thirty six match campaign as April month dawns.
For Jim Weir and his squad the quintet of games that remain commence on home ‘soil’ this coming Saturday when Elgin City currently sitting in fourth place in the league table, two places and five points ahead of the Athies, visit the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park. This fixture as ever will be fully reviewed on Friday of this week on FAFC social media channels, suffice to say that the home support would settle for a repeat of the 4-2 win in a six goal thriller when Elgin were last in town on Christmas Saturday.
A week later on April 11th, another potential cracker is in store for the home support when East Kilbride currently sitting top of the table, a point ahead of the Spartans are the visitors to the ‘toonie’. This season’s newcomers to the SPFL have certainly had the upper hand to date against Stuart Morrison and his colleagues, registering 5-0, 3-0 and 3-1 victories. Hopefully the tide will turn on Saturday week?
The 18th of the month sees Forfar head off on their travels to Wigtownshire for our fourth game of the campaign with Stranraer. Honours have been even in the three games to date with Chris Aitken’s side this season, both teams recording a home victory before a share of the spoils courtesy of a 2-2 draw at Forfar in January.
Our final scheduled home game of the season arrives on the 25th of the month when Edinburgh City are our visitors. We have still to record a victory over Michael McIndoe’s charges this term over ninety minutes of competitive action, although a penalty shoot-out success was recorded in the first knock-out stage of the KDM Evolution Trophy. The Edinburgh side look to be heading for the nerve jangling Pyramid Play-Off in early May, their fifteen point penalty imposed by the SPFL for an insolvency event having proved it would seem too big a ‘cross to bear’ as the season has evolved. The ‘Loons’ will certainly be keen on the day to reward the home faithful who have backed the club to the hilt throughout the campaign with a victory.
We still live in hope though it is now no easy task that we will be in the mix for that vital fourth and final play-off place come the ‘drawing of the curtain’ on the thirty six game league season on May 2nd. For the ‘Loons’ that afternoon it is another lengthy journey and a return to where it all began away back on July 12th in the Betfred Cup, Galabank the destination for a clash with what would appear to be these days a rejuvenated Annan Athletic.
