The ‘Loons’ and Elgin City cross swords on Saturday for the second time in eleven days in the William Hill League2, the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park the venue on this occasion and there is no hiding from the fact that it an important game for both sides.
Jim Weir is the first to admit that, accepting that nothing less than a victory and the three points that will bring being the sole aim of his players and staff come 3pm. on Saturday. A win will obviously bring the Athies back within two points of City who sit in fourth place while of course should the end result go the other way, it would put Allan Hale’s side almost ‘out of sight’ in the league standings as far as the home side are concerned.
Jim still cannot hide his disappointment at the way we lost out to both Elgin at Borough Briggs a week past Tuesday and subsequently surrendered a two goal lead at Dumbarton last Saturday. One thing he is certain of is that the correct messages in regard to the manner of the display in the last half hour at the Marbill Coaches Stadium last weekend have been transmitted and observed by the players, two points dropped when quite frankly the game should have been out of sight. Similarly the squad have been made well aware that there are still fifteen points up for grabs and few if any mistakes has to be order of the day moving forward into what is undoubtedly the business end of a lengthy campaign.
Despite Jake Dolzanski having to sit out the game having picked up his twelfth caution of the season up at Borough Briggs, the manager is delighted with the make-up of his squad for Saturday’s contest. Mason Munn, Martin Rennie and Craig Slater are all back and available for a starting berth, although as ever the management team at this stage are keeping their cards close to their chase in regard to their final selection.
Elgin head into the game having accrued ten points from their last four games, the success against the Loons’ being followed up a by another 2-0 home win last weekend, on this occasion Clyde the opponents, Kane Hester and Kyle Girvan the marksmen. There is little doubt that Hester and Ryan Sargent in particular provide the Morayshire outfit with a potent strike force as they head into the closing embers of the season, while the experienced Morgyn Neill has been an important addition to their ‘engine room’ in recent times.
The side playing on their own ‘patch’ has come out on top in all three previous meetings this term between the sides and the Forfar faithful would without doubt settle for a repeat of the stirring showing that they witnessed from the home side back in late December on Elgin’s previous visit this season. Jim Weir summed the situation to perfection emphasising there is no room for error come 3pm. on Saturday afternoon in what is the first of three games for his players, two in succession at home against a trio of teams currently sitting above us in the League2 table.
Saturday’s man in the middle is Daniel Graves, the fourth occasion this season he has been the referee at a ‘Loons’ fixture.
C’mon the ‘Loons’
